Polish police found the boy in Bialystok, in northeastern Poland and near the border with Belarus. The 14-year-old was temporarily housed in a care facility in the Polish city, after which the competent authorities were notified.

“The parents are very relieved and happy that their son has been found,” says a spokesperson for Victim Support Netherlands. “They have now spoken to him by telephone and will pick him up in Poland as soon as possible.”

The 14-year-old student from Apeldoorn had been missing for three weeks. He left on his bicycle on Saturday April 18 and was not seen again.

On the way to Russia

According to police, the boy is said to have planned to travel east, possibly with Russia as a final destination. The boy’s motives were not disclosed by the police.

There had been no contact with the young student since he went missing. Flyers were hung in various places in the city by the boy’s family. After numerous searches yielded nothing, the boy was also looked for in Germany and Poland. The police distributed an investigation notice in German and Polish.
