All or nothing. That was on everyone’s minds at Knack Roeselare. After the uppercut last Tuesday in Maaseik, the West Flemish had to put something right. And they did.
In a nail-biting match, both teams gave each other little margin. Roeselare won the first set with the smallest difference and Maaseik neatly repeated that in set two. And if that wasn’t enough tension, the home team fought again to take a 2-1 lead with 25-23.
The spoils seemed as good as they had been won, but then a new winter dip followed at Roeselare, they were dealt a 14-25 and had to completely regroup in the decisive fifth set.
The heartbeat of the entire REO Arena went up, point by point the scoreboard went up. Until at 14-13 Sil Meijs deflected the ball outside for Maaseik. Knack thus grabbed his last lifeline. The release was enormous, and the joy even greater. “Knack is still alive,” we heard a hundred times.
Next Tuesday, match number four awaits in Maaseik, will we get a new thriller there?
