Russia threatens to fire Oreshnik missiles at Kiev if Ukraine dares to attack the annual military parade in Moscow tomorrow. The Russian Foreign Ministry warns European and other embassies one last time to evacuate their staff in a timely manner.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zacharova reiterated yesterday that Moscow will take “appropriate steps” if Ukraine disrupts the annual May 9 parade on Red Square, which commemorates the victory over Nazi Germany.
Embassies
An attack on Kiev is a possibility, she said, and foreign embassies could also be hit. According to Zacharova, they have been warned and their staff has been asked to leave Kiev. However, the EU immediately announced that it will not change its “presence”.
Russian parliamentarians – who are considered a mouthpiece for the Kremlin – went the extra mile. According to them, Moscow plans to use the Oreshnik missile in retaliatory attacks on Kiev. “This is the last warning for Brussels,” it said, with a new reference to the embassies.
What is the Oreshnik?
The Oreshnik is an ultra-fast medium-range missile that can be equipped with a nuclear payload. It has a range of 5,500 kilometers and can reach our country in fifteen minutes from the Russian Kapustin Yar launch base, for example.
The Oreshnik has been deployed by Moscow since 2024.
The American think tank ‘Institute for the Study of War’ (ISW) sees the threat from the Kremlin as proof that President Vladimir Putin fears that he cannot adequately protect the parade against attacks from Ukraine. After all, Kiev has proven several times that it can get its drones to Moscow.
Flight
Putin would also like to show that he can rout Ukraine’s allies with his threats to further escalate the war. Something that doesn’t seem to work right away.
Military bloggers in Russia are unimpressed and question the Kremlin’s willingness to carry out such an attack in the first place. According to them, it should have happened much sooner.
“Threats are pointless if you never carry them out,” he said.
