Ricco Groß returns to the Biathlon World Cup after years as a base trainer. His commitment is part of a larger change in the Swiss coaching team.

The four-time Olympic champion and nine-time world champion Ricco Groß takes over responsibility for the shooting area of the Swiss biathlon team. The Swiss Ski Association announced this on Wednesday. The 55-year-old most recently worked as a trainer at the Eastern Switzerland biathlon base in Lenzerheide.

Andreas Kuppelwieser will work alongside him as another shooting trainer. Both mentor men and women who continue to hold their training camps together. Gion-Andrea Bundi is also new to the staff. The former cross-country skier takes over the athletics department and at the same time leads the women’s World Cup team. For the men, Este Kein Einaste takes on this role.

The restructuring follows the departure of head coach Sandra Flunger. The Austrian gave up her position after the Olympic winter and moved to the German Ski Association. There, the 44-year-old is supposed to get the biathletes back on track as head coach. Before his time in Switzerland, Groß worked as a trainer in Germany, Russia, Austria and Slovenia.
