The border area of Drenthe, Friesland and Groningen will be the focus of the Three Provinces Walking Tour this Saturday. RTV Drenthe, Omrop Fryslan and RTV Noord will jointly broadcast the event live, as part of ‘Samen 80’.

The three broadcasters are celebrating their eightieth anniversary year with the joint reporting. This year, the broadcasters will travel to the region together under the name ‘Together 80’. The Three Provinces Walking Tour, which literally crosses the borders of the three provinces, is the perfect moment for this.

You don’t have to miss a moment of the atmosphere between 12:00 and 16:00. The entire broadcast comes from the area and reporters from the three broadcasters walk along to record the stories of participants and to portray the beautiful routes around the three-province point near Bakkeveen.

Moreover, the walking tour is more than just a sporting event. Every year a significant amount is raised for charity. This year it is the Fivel Dog and Assistance Foundation from Groningen.

This foundation trains assistance dogs for people with a physical disability or post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD). The proceeds from the walk help the foundation to connect more people to an assistance dog, which increases their independence and quality of life.

Christine Meijer of the foundation is happy that their organization has been designated as a charity this year. “This is really fantastic. There is a major shortage of assistance dogs. The waiting lists are long, also because there are too few host families where the dogs can be trained.”

The tour takes walkers through the unique scenic landscape, over the heath and through the forests where Drenthe, Friesland and Groningen meet. For more information about the event, visit the website and watch RTV Drenthe this Saturday from 12 noon.
