For the special screenings of the classic film The Wizard of Oz 3 million tickets have already been sold at The Sphere in Las Vegas. Together, this already generated more than 370 million dollars (more than 316 million euros), reports Deadline based on figures from the first quarterly report of the special spherical event hall.
The new version of The Wizard of Oz from 1939 has been made available for the mega screen in The Sphere, partly thanks to artificial intelligence. Film critics were hesitant in advance because AI generated additional characters that were not in the original version.
The screenings alternate with concerts by big names such as Metallica, The Eagles, U2 and Backstreet Boys.
The Sphere boss James Dolan also wants to bring the special hall to other places in the world. For example, there are plans for a Sphere in Abu Dhabi and a smaller version in Washington DC.
