The Pussycat Dolls have canceled the North American leg of their upcoming reunion tour – after an “honest look” at their first tour in 17 years.
The group – now made up of Nicole Scherzinger, Kimberly Wyatt and Ashley Roberts – announced the decision on Monday to cancel all but one of its US shows. The three left it open why the “honest look” led to this step; “Variety” cites weak ticket sales as the reason, which had already been widely mocked on social media.
“Dolls: We would like to share an important update with you,” the Pussycat Dolls wrote on social media. “When we announced the PCD FOREVER Tour, we hoped to bring the show to fans around the world. After an honest look at the North American leg, we have made the difficult and heartbreaking decision to cancel all but one of the North American dates.”
Only WeHo Pride remains
The Pussycat Dolls’ only remaining U.S. date is a June 6 appearance at WeHo Pride in Los Angeles. “We can’t think of a more meaningful place to celebrate with our fans,” the group said. “The LGBTQ+ community has shown us so much love and support throughout our careers, and we are honored to be a part of a weekend rooted in joy, pride, music and chosen family.”
The Pussycat Dolls had already announced in 2020 that they would be going on tour together again for the first time since 2009 – but the Covid pandemic and subsequent legal disputes thwarted these plans. Afterwards, the PCD Forever Tour was supposed to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album, but demand wasn’t enough to fill arenas, at least in the USA: The Pussycat Dolls also announced on Monday that their international performances will take place as planned.
“Our UK and European dates are going ahead as planned and the response has been incredible – several shows have already sold out,” the group added. “We’re putting everything into this show to make it a true celebration of music and memories – for the fans who have been there since the beginning and for those who are just discovering us. We’re working hard to create the show we’ve always dreamed of. We can’t wait to bring this reunion to Europe and make these evenings unforgettable.”
More cancellations in the music business
The Pussycat Dolls are the third well-known artist group to cancel a tour in a short time – after Zayn Malik and Meghan Trainor. Post Malone also canceled a third of his Big Ass Stadium Tour Part 2 to finish his new album.
