In Rotterdam the Italians, who had already qualified for the finals in Sydney, paid for a bad performance in attack. The last match against the United States is on Wednesday
A step back. Painless, but eye-catching and unexpected. With qualification for the Sydney finals already in their pocket, Setterosa surrendered to the Netherlands on the fifth day of the World Cup in Rotterdam: the home team won 12-2, the Italian attack produced very little and the result spoke for itself. “We met a very motivated team and also much fitter than us – is the analysis of the coach Maurizio Mirarchi – but it is not an alibi because even on tiredness we have to work, never give up. We still have to grow a lot to reach certain levels. We have learned a sound lesson and I think it will also do us good”. A bad day can happen, after other applause-worthy tests. The percentage in numerical superiority is also eloquent, one goal out of seven occasions. A revenge for the European champions, defeated 12-10 by the Italians on Sunday. Tomorrow at 8.15pm the match ends against the United States.

Eight teams divided into two groups (A and B), the top two in each group have already secured the pass to the Final Eight from 22-26 July in Sydney where Settebello will also be present, but the game will continue until tomorrow to define the grid (group C). With Setterosa, Holland, Spain and the United States qualified. Third and fourth places – Hungary, Japan, Australia and Greece – have merged into another group (D) which offers the fifth pass to the Final Eight (two others have been assigned by the Second Division played in Malta, to Russia and China, while Australia is qualified by right as the host country and therefore plays out of the rankings). All matches are streamed live on the paid section of the World Aquatics website.
