The arrival of two new primary schools in Nijeveen seems to be one step closer. An initial study into the feasibility of a multifunctional center in the village concludes that ‘the arrival of two primary schools is the most promising scenario’.
Nijeveen would like a multifunctional center and has come up with the plans itself. A foundation has also been set up for this purpose. In the center, primary schools, childcare, the village hall and a sports hall could be brought together under one roof.
A first step towards its arrival was a study into the future of the primary schools in Nijeveen, De Wel and Commissaris Gaarlandt.
The most important outcome of this first study is that ‘the preferred scenario is for new construction of both schools at a new location.’ The two schools say they agree with the conclusions and the research.
They have already indicated that they either both participate in the plans for the multifunctional center or both do not. They both express the wish for a center consisting of several buildings, instead of one large building that houses everything.
“This is an important step, but not yet an end point,” says councilor Klaas de Vries (Sterk Meppel). “We see a clear direction emerging and at the same time there are still essential questions on the table. We will investigate this further. Then we can decide responsibly whether a multifunctional center in Nijeveen is feasible.”
In the meantime, research into the feasibility of the center continues. The municipality expects to be able to make a statement about the feasibility at the end of this year and that the municipal council can consider it.
The Nijeveners’ idea is that the locations released by the arrival of the center can be used for housing, for example. The proceeds from this can then be used to pay for part of the center.
