The Zwolle culture alderman Monique Schuttenbeld remembers well how Henk Jan Meijer said goodbye as mayor of Zwolle two and a half years ago. “There were several beautiful performances by artists in the Grote Kerk Academy House. We wondered what remains when there is no more culture. You then take the soul out of society. Experiencing theater and music makes people happy and touches people. And in Zwolle, partly due to the growth in the number of inhabitants, we need to do more of this. What is a city with only houses?”
