Spanish police found a record amount of cocaine on a cargo ship on Friday. The international police service Interpol suspects that the Breda drug criminal ‘Bolle Jos’ is involved. That writes The Telegraph. Jos Leijdekkers has been safe in Sierra Leone for some time, which refuses to extradite him to the Netherlands.
The ship left the port of Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, on April 22, with its final destination being Benghazi, Libya. Spanish authorities then continuously monitored the ship and intervened last Friday.
The crew was overpowered off the coast of Morocco. After which the captain had to relinquish authority over the Arconian and units of the Civil Guard took control.
Record amount of kilos of coke
A record number of kilos of coke were reportedly found on board. This concerns a seizure of between 30,000 and 45,000 kilos of pure cocaine with an estimated value of more than one billion euros.
The ship is currently anchored off the coast of Gran Canaria. According to the deployment of the Spanish authorities The Telegraph Dutch people were also arrested.
Link with Bolle Jos
It is unclear what role Bolle Jos played in the transport and is currently being investigated. He has been living in Sierra Leone for some time, where he would work closely with President Maada Bio, among others. He is also said to have a child with President Bio’s daughter.
Decades in prison
The Breda drug boss still has to serve decades in prison in Europe. For example, Jos Leijdekkers was sentenced in absentia in several cases in Belgium to a total of 57 years in prison. In June 2024, he was sentenced to 24 years in prison in the Netherlands for international cocaine trafficking and ordering a liquidation.
The Netherlands has already asked Sierra Leone several times to extradite the drug boss, but the country repeatedly refuses this request.
Bolle Jos’ father, mother and sister are suspected of money laundering and will stand trial in Rotterdam next Wednesday and Friday. They were arrested in January and March 2023 because they had access to an apartment in Dubai purchased with drug money, two Bentleys and a large amount of cash.
