The Frenchman was once again decisive: he scored the 1-0 goal in the Scudetto match against Parma. And he applauds his teammate: “I didn’t understand when Bare was being questioned, but it only happens to the older ones”
“Hard fate is having a destiny.” This is what Italo Calvino wrote when describing Ludovico Ariosto’s Orlando furioso, and who knows how Marcus Thuram would interpret the quote. Because as often happens, fate itself enjoyed joking, decreeing Inter’s arithmetic championship thanks to Tikus’ goal against Parma. A team that, ultimately, will always have a special place in the Frenchman’s heart. Not only because he was born right there while father Lilian enchanted, but also for the historical memory of the Nerazzurri striker who kicked the ball for the first time at the Tardini as a child, at the end of each of his father’s matches. Thuram’s second scudetto with Inter materialized at San Siro – like the first, that of the second star won in the derby against Milan thanks to the Frenchman’s decisive goal -, but it changes little: those who blindly believe in destiny would interpret the match as the obvious closing of a circle. He celebrates it with the smile of a boy, wearing a pair of dark glasses (“A teammate of mine gave them to me”) and on the title: “Since I arrived at Inter I have seen a group that truly loves being together, on and off the pitch, a group that loves to joke as well as loves to make sacrifices. And I think this is the strength of this team”. From Parma to winning the title against “his” Parma, (almost) at the end of a season in which the former ‘Gladbach provided the usual certainties, the usual goals, assists, the now codified plays and above all the constant double figures in terms of goalscoring. The numbers speak for themselves and confirm the absolute centrality that the Frenchman immediately gained within the Nerazzurri group, confirming it year after year. Then a passage on Barella, together with the Frenchman during the pitchside interview: “Bare has never been in question, he is one of the best footballers in the world, someone who knows how to do many things, he has helped Italy and Inter. For me he is the best Italian player, I didn’t understand when he was being questioned, but even the greatest in the world were questioned. He gave everything, on and off the pitch, he is also our captain and this victory is for him too.”
double digits… triple

Thuram’s season started with a bang and ended in the best possible way. A brace on his debut in the league, a sprint start in which all of Inter often clung to the Frenchman’s play, decisive scratches and the magic moment experienced in the month of April (5 goals and 2 assists in 4 league games) which allowed Chivu’s group to redeem a complex March and escape towards the 21st scudetto. The partial count, once achieved, says that Thuram has reached 13 goals and 5 assists which have profoundly contributed to getting here, to Inter’s second scudetto in three years. Statistics fully in line with previous seasons – 13 goals the first year, 14 the last -, despite having played fewer games.

It is also no coincidence that in the general scorers’ ranking of the current Serie A, behind the commander Lautaro Martinez (16 goals), the name of Marcus Thuram stands out at 13. During the season, also due to the Argentine’s injuries, he played in pairs with everyone: from Toro to Pio Esposito and Bonny, confirming an extraordinary feeling with each one. After all, this is Tikus: striker, assist-man, locker room man. Always with a toothy smile printed on his lips, but since last night… even more dazzling.
