With a win against Parma Calcio, Inter secured the title early. Soon they could cheer again.
Celebrations in black and blue: Inter Milan have won the Italian championship for the 21st time. The team around the German Yann Bisseck completed the Scudetto early on Sunday evening with a 2-0 (1-0) against Parma Calcio. With three game days to go, the Nerazzurri can no longer be caught at the top of the table.
Former Gladbach player Marcus Thuram (45th + 1st) and former Dortmund player Henrich Mchitarjan (80th) scored for Inter’s 26th win of the season. The Milanese are twelve points ahead of SSC Napoli, who triumphed last year. A draw would have been enough for Inter to win the title. Bisseck, who has one international match for the DFB team, was in the starting line-up.
Coach Christian Chivu’s team also has the chance of their first double since the 2010/11 season. In the cup final, Inter and former Bundesliga professionals Yann Sommer, Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Thuram, Mchitarjan and Manuel Akanji will face Lazio on May 13th. In the Champions League, the traditional club sensationally failed in the round of 16 against outsiders Bodö Glimt.
After a minute’s silence for the late former racing driver Alex Zanardi, Inter initially got off to a cautious start in the sold-out football temple of San Siro. It was only after 25 minutes that Inter became dangerous when a shot from Nicolò Barella hit the bottom edge of the crossbar. Shortly before the break, Thuram scored, Mchitarjan made everything clear and the big championship party could begin.
