With four matchdays to go, Club is the new leader with 47 points, one point ahead of Union.
Due to the heavy rainfall above the Astrid Park, there was a layer of water on the Anderlecht field. The drainage was clearly not doing its job, which made playing football difficult and the start of the match nervous. Club turned a blind eye three times.
Carlos Forbs’ second raid on the right was a hit. On his debut in the starting line-up, defender Mathys Angély pushed Nicolo Tresoldi’s cross into his own goal: 0-1 after just 8 minutes.
Yet it was also disappointing for blue-black, which saw Nordin Jackers drop out with a head injury after fifteen minutes after a collision with Moussa Diarra. The Bruges goalkeeper had to be removed. Dani van den Heuvel was his replacement because Simon Mignolet has been out of action for some time. For the 22-year-old Dutch third goalkeeper, it was only the eleventh game ever in the Bruges main force. His contract expires at the end of this season. Afterwards, Diarra was also unable to continue.
Blauw-zwart held its ground well until half time. Just before the hour mark, the West Flemish team scored again. Joaquin Seys kept the overview on the left and served Carlos Forbs, after which the Portuguese put Anderlecht double behind: 0-2.
A few minutes later it was over for a defensively shaky Anderlecht. Christos Tzolis kicked the 0-3 onto the scoreboard from an acute angle. The home team was knocked out in just a few minutes.
In the end there was another honor saver for Anderlecht. On a pass from substitute Adriano Bertaccini, Mihajlo Cvetkovic scored from close range in the 83rd minute: 1-3, which was also the final score in the Park.
Union now has to leave the leading position to Club, which is at the top for the first time this season.
