Former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert is now facing life in prison: the charge against him has been upgraded to attempted first-degree murder, after he is said to have deliberately run over Turnstile singer Brendan Yates’ father with his car.

Ebert was initially charged with attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault – both felonies – after the band said on March 29 that Ebert “used his vehicle to kill Brendan’s father.” [den 79-jährigen William Yates] to run over, resulting in serious physical injuries.”

A grand jury in Montgomery County formally indicted Ebert and upgraded the charge of attempted second-degree murder to first-degree. A conviction on this count would result in life imprisonment; the original second-degree charge carried a maximum of 30 years. Additionally, Ebert is charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree aggravated assault and two counts of second-degree assault, the Baltimore Banner reports.

Next court date is May 8th

Ebert is next due in court on May 8. So far he has maintained his innocence and told a district judge: “This was pure self-defense.”

“Turnstile separated from Brady Ebert in 2022 in response to an ongoing pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band and the community,” Turnstile previously said in a statement. “After exhausting every resource available to help him access help and recovery, we ultimately had to draw the line when healthy communication was no longer possible and he began to threaten violence.”

The band continued: “In the years since, he has continued his baseless rants publicly. We have never commented. We have chosen to protect his privacy and the circumstances of his departure, even when he did nothing to deserve that protection. In recent months, his threats have escalated even further. … We have no words for Brady.”

Shortly after the incident, Turnstile opened their Coachella performance with a video from William Yates.
