The child was taken to hospital with serious injuries, reports Mayor Sjors Fröhlich of the Dutch municipality of Vijfheerenlanden. “How a beautiful summer Saturday can turn into a drama,” he writes on X.
He says he was deeply affected by the incident, in which a young child was hit by one of the blades of a mill. Several ambulances and an air ambulance arrived on the scene. The child was taken to hospital by helicopter with serious injuries.
It is still unknown how old the child is and exactly what injuries he sustained. It could possibly have been playing with other children near the mill when things went wrong.
“I sympathize with the family and deeply hope that everything will turn out well,” said Fröhlich. He further reports that the circumstances are being investigated.
