Ajax’s start could rightly be called dramatic, after the ball was in the goal behind Maarten Paes after just 35 seconds. A long throw from PSV was headed into the goal at the far post by Ricardo Pepi. However, the team from Amsterdam quickly recovered and made it 1-1 through Anton Gaaei. The Dane took a deflected ball from a corner on the slipper.
“It was a good goal, but I would have preferred if we won,” Gaaei said. “I’ve been working on my shot from a young age. I’m happy that I can help the team with that.”
The Dane also praised Godts, who saved a point for Ajax. “He is our most important player. He works hard every day and I am very happy for him. If big clubs come, I would think it would be logical if they sold him.”
