According to a media report, coach Hansi Flick is said to have signaled his future intentions to FC Barcelona. Only detailed questions remain to be clarified.
At FC Barcelona there are signs of continuity – according to a report from Spain, Hansi Flick is said to have positioned himself for his future.
As the Spanish sports newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” reports, the 61-year-old coach has agreed to extend his contract with the Catalans early. Accordingly, the new working paper should run until the end of June 2028 and contain an option for the 2028/2029 season.
Details still need to be clarified, it is said. These talks are scheduled to take place next week, when Flick’s advisor Pini Zahavi is expected in Barcelona. The newspaper relies on sources close to the trainer. Flick wants to sign the new contract as soon as the championship title in the Primera División is secured again.
A decision could come as early as the weekend. Barça travel to CA Osasuna on Saturday and could increase the pressure on Real Madrid with a win. If the Madrilenians do not win at Espanyol on Sunday, their title defense would be decided. Otherwise the decision could come a week later in the Clásico at the Camp Nou. Before matchday 34, Barça is eleven points ahead of Real.
Flick has been the club’s coach since July 1, 2024. A big goal for him remains winning the Champions League, which he had already achieved with FC Bayern. This season, Barça was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Atlético Madrid.
Flick also hopes to be able to play with the team at the Camp Nou once the renovation is complete. According to a report by broadcaster Cadena Ser, the installation of the roof will not begin until after the 2026/2027 season. The club has therefore already asked to host the majority of the 2027/2028 season again in the Olympic Stadium.
