The medical situation of Mayor Mark Buijs of the municipality of Roosendaal has ‘slightly improved’. Mayor Buijs was seriously injured on Tuesday in a one-vehicle bicycle accident in Scharendijke in Zeeland. He suffered serious head injuries and a number of broken bones. Buijs was urgently transferred to the Erasmus Hospital in Rotterdam.
According to the municipality, the recovery is expected to take a long time. King’s Commissioner Ina Adema will speak to the municipal council shortly about the situation that has arisen. This is necessary to guarantee the continuity of Roosendaal’s administration and to create space and peace for the recovery of mayor Mark Buijs. Temporarily appointing an acting mayor is an option that will be discussed with the municipal council.
