The world of entrepreneurship and the mountains mourns passing of Sergio Longoni83 years old, the man who was able to transform the passion for the heights in a business empire. Starting from a shoe shop in the center of Barzanò, in the province of Lecco, his parents’ shop made up of “counter, customers, effort”, Longoni had theintuition that skiing would become a mass phenomenon. From that small shop Longoni Sport was born, a company capable of growing constantly until its sale at the end of the nineties. However, it wasn’t enough for him: in 2002 he chose to start from scratch by founding DF Sport Specialistwhose initials are dedicated to daughters Daniela and Francesca.

Sergio Longoni has passed away

Sergio Longoni’s success has never been just a question of turnover, but the fruit of a “hard-working Brianza” that did not like ostentation. Although he had built a solid network between Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Switzerland, those who knew him well remember him as a reserved man who did not boast of successmuch preferring the direct relationship with customers. This philosophy, based on competence as respect, has allowed it to become an absolute point of reference for mountain enthusiasts; as recalled by the Ragni di Lecco aplin group, “the Longoni logo meant having a privileged relationship, it was synonymous with belonging, created a mountaineering community“.

Until the end, despite the illness, Longoni maintained his usual determinationcontinuing to find out about shipments and follow the company alongside his wife Silvana and daughters. His connection with the peaks was also manifested in concrete gestures such as recovery of the Riva-Girani bivouaca fundamental aid for those who face winter ascents on the Northern Grigna.

Passed away yesterday at 83 years old with the same discretion that characterized his entire professional life, he leaves aindelible legacy among the great names of mountaineeringlike Reinhold Messner and Simone Moro, often guests of his famous evenings Face to face with the greats of sport. The funeral will be celebrated on Saturday 2 May at 10.30 in Barzanò.
