For the past four years, Per Nilson has worked as a cross-country skiing discipline coach for the DSV. Now the Swede is switching to biathlon.

As the Swedish Biathlon Association officially confirmed on Thursday, Nilson will take on the newly created position of development manager from May 1st.

“We are working long-term and purposefully to secure a strong young generation, and our Strategy 2031 places a great focus on the long-term development of the entire company. That is why it feels absolutely right that we are now taking this step and clearly defining the responsibility for the development work, so that in the long term we can realize our vision of being a global leader in the sport of biathlon at all levels,” said Sweden’s Biathlon Secretary General Rikard Grip, justifying the step.

Nilson most recently worked at DSV as the women’s cross-country skiing discipline coach. The Scandinavian said goodbye in the spring together with Marc Steur (men’s discipline coach).

“You were not just trainers, but real companions. We are reluctant to let you go – but we wish you all the best and lots of success for everything that comes next!” wrote the DSV on Instagram at the time.

Switching to biathlon “inspirational and motivating”

Nilson is now moving to his homeland. “It is a great pleasure to join the biathlon association and become part of the work. I find the opportunity to work closely with the day-to-day business in Östersund and to lay further building blocks for what we call the ‘biathlon factory’ inspiring and motivating,” explained the 55-year-old.

Nilson has also been working as the personal trainer of Swedish cross-country skier Frida Karlsson for a long time.

As the future biathlon official revealed to the TV station “SVT”, it is not yet clear whether the path with the two-time Olympic champion will continue.
