Sound engineer Steve Maslow has died. Maslow was 81 years old when he died. Maslow’s wife Ronna Maslow told about it For The Hollywood Reporter.
Maslow died Monday of cancer at a therapy center in West Hills.
He made more than 200 films during his career.
The sound engineer received a total of seven Oscar nominations in the best voice category. Wins for Maslow came from three films, The Empire Strikes Back (1980), The Lost Treasure Hunters (1981) and Speed - Ride of Death (1994).
As a sound master’s colleague, he was a sound post-mixer in more than 130 film productions Greg Landaker. The duo’s collaboration began with the 1979 film Star Trek: A Space Journey.
Maslow specialized in dialogue and music. Landaker’s forte is the sound effects. Both received Oscar nominations for six films together. Of the two, only Maslow received a nomination for the 1984 film Dune.
He has said that the music industry opened up for him when he joined the rock band Strawberry Alarm Clock in 1969 as a frontman. After his rough youth, he moved into the film industry.
Maslow’s most recent works were the 2023 indie film The Man With the Silver Case and the historical film 1066.
