In Norwegian ski jumping there are changes in the coaching team around a month after the end of the season.
As the Norwegian Ski Jumping Association officially confirmed on Wednesday, Jermund Lunder will act as head coach of the women’s national team from the coming World Cup winter.
Predecessor Christian Meyer will remain with the association, but will step down at his own request. The 48-year-old had held the office since 2011. Lunder has worked for the association since 2005.
“We are very pleased that Meyer will remain part of the support team,” Norway’s ski jumping boss Jan-Erik Aalbu was quoted as saying in an official statement. Meyer will travel less from now on. “This offers the opportunity to use one’s expertise more broadly and specifically in other important areas of the association,” explained Aalbu.
The Norwegian women’s national ski jumping team celebrated some successes last season. Anna Odine Strøm won the gold medal on the normal and large hill at the Winter Olympics in Italy. Strøm and Eirin Maria Kvandal took silver in the mixed doubles together with Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal and Marius Lindvik.
Trainer trio extends contract with ski jumping nation
The Norwegian Ski Jumping Association had already provided clarity on the coaching position for the men’s national team in mid-March. Rune Velta, Anders Fannemel and Sigurd Søberg’s contracts have been extended until 2028.
“Overall, the national ski jumping team now presents itself as a complete and solid organization that is characterized by a good balance between experience, a high level of expertise and a high level of work capacity – a combination that is crucial in view of an exciting and important World Cup season,” said Aalbu, satisfied with the personnel composition.
