Amazon is expanding its logistics network in Brandenburg: The online mail order company is opening two new distribution centers in Cottbus and Dahlewitz on the Berlin city limits. There, the incoming packages are unloaded, sorted and distributed onto delivery vehicles for delivery to customers.

A distribution location with around 7,700 square meters of space and around 70 employees is scheduled to start operations on Autobahn 15 near Cottbus in September, as the company announced. The delivery area also includes southern Brandenburg and parts of northern Saxony. Another center will follow in October in Dahlewitz near Berlin – it will be twice as big at around 15,500 square meters.

According to Amazon, this should speed up delivery to customers. An additional 200 drivers in Cottbus and 150 in Dahlewitz will be responsible for delivery from local delivery partners.

Amazon already has three distribution centers in Brandenburg: in Hoppegarten, Werder (Havel) and Schönefeld. According to the company, more than 1,000 people are currently employed at the logistics locations in Brandenburg.

Amazon is also expanding the distribution network for parcel delivery in other federal states – with new locations in Ettenheim (Baden-Württemberg), Kassel (Hesse) and Salzgitter (Lower Saxony).

The world’s largest online retailer is cutting thousands of jobs in administration – i.e. office jobs – as the company announced at its headquarters in Seattle. He justified this with the reduction of hierarchical levels and bureaucracy as well as the growing use of artificial intelligence. It was previously unclear to what extent jobs in Germany would be affected by cuts.
