Champions League semi-final, Paris Parc de Princes, PSG and Bayern Munich. Tuesday night’s spectacle will go down in history.
PSG defeated Bayern 5-4 and gets to the second part, which will be played a week from now, with a one-goal lead.
The first 45 minutes of the semi-final offered such a show that even the MTV studio was hit on the head with a tree.
“That was the best half I’ve ever seen, expert Antti Niemi quoth.
Harry Kane first knocked Bayern into the lead at the quarter mark. Then it was PSG’s turn. Khvitsha Kvaratskhelia got his legs free in the box and shot the equalizer with a real beauty. In the 33rd minute it struck João Neves. However, Bayern’s equalizer came quickly – and beautifully too. Michael Olise ended as a tempo delivery with a wild bomb, which changed the situation to 2–2.
Even that wasn’t enough. PSG were awarded a spot kick at the end of the opening period, and no Ousmane Dembélé out.
When the second period started, the guests from Munich were outnumbered. Kvaratskhelia and Dembélé’s second goals of the night gave PSG a 5-2 lead with only 58 minutes on the clock.
If anyone counted Bayern out at this point, they were wrong. An incredible thriller came to life in three minutes. First, in the 65th minute, it hit Dayot Upamecanomoments later Luis Diaz. The lead was only 5–4 for PSG.
No further goals were seen after that. The setup for next Wednesday’s meeting at the Allianz Arena is huge.
– I’m not sure if this was the best or the most absurd football match I’ve seen, Niemi summarized after the final whistle on MTV.
