A suspicious camera has been discovered at an important NATO station in Minden, Germany. On Tuesday morning, police raided the home of a man from Lithuania. He is suspected of spying for Russia.

On September 29, a suspicious camera was discovered by a Deutsche Bahn employee at Minden station, in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The device had a sticker from the German railway company, but she had not placed it herself.

Research by WDR and NDR shows that the camera was equipped with a SIM card. This made it possible to broadcast live images, even at night, because the camera had night vision.
The camera was aimed at the station’s marshalling yard, where, among other things, transports of the Bundeswehr, the German armed forces, are handled.
Concrete evidence
When this became known to the authorities, they were shocked. It is the first concrete evidence of the observation of important military supply and transport routes in Germany. Previously, there were similar incidents in Poland, where several people received prison sentences, but not yet in Germany.
The station is crucial for NATO’s military infrastructure, especially for the German and British armed forces. For example, the German army uses the train station to move equipment. The German-British Engineer Bridge Battalion 130 is stationed in a nearby barracks. This highly specialized unit is the only one within NATO equipped with the M3 bridge system, which allows troops to cross rivers in a short time.
After investigation, the suspect camera was traced to a truck driver from Lithuania. Police raided his home in Detmold, in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, on Tuesday morning. He is suspected of spying for Russia.
