RKC Waalwijk and Roda JC drew 1-1 in the first of two games in the play-offs for promotion to the Eredivisie. For a long time, RKC seemed to be winning, but Roda managed to come alongside in the last minute of the match. The winner of the diptych will meet Willem II in the next round.
In the first half, both teams had great chances to score the opening goal. RKC striker Jesper Uneken even came face to face with Roda goalkeeper Justin Treichel just before half time, but his weak shot was saved by the German.
In the 52nd minute, Denilho Cleonise opened the score on behalf of RKC. Roda’s defense was unable to clear a high cross from the flank, after which the winger curled the ball into the intersection from the edge of the penalty area. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Tomas Kalinauskas scored Roda level.
