In recent weeks the holder of the referees file was designated by the CSM for the European Prosecutor’s Office in Rome: he will not represent the prosecution if it comes to trial
Prosecutor Maurizio Ascione will not be the one to represent the prosecution, should the referees’ investigation reach trial. The deputy public prosecutor of Milan, who has ended up at the center of attention in the last few hours as the holder of the file on the arbitration class involving the designator Gianluca Rocchi, the supervisor Gervasoni and other varisti, is in fact about to change his role. In recent weeks, the Superior Council of the Judiciary unanimously chose him as the new European Delegated Prosecutor (PED) for the Rome office, where he will move after ranking first in the selection procedure.

Since March 2012 he has been on duty in Milan, at the First Department, where he also followed the file on the arbitration class, specializing in the fight against economic-financial crimes and working on several occasions in application of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate on the economic interests of organized crime. The new position at the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) is therefore consistent with his profile and the work carried out over the years, often in areas of interest to the European Union. If the investigation into the referees goes to trial, he will not be the one representing the prosecution.
