IndyCar Series instead of Formula 1: Mick Schumacher has been breaking new ground in motorsport since this season. The 27-year-old has now spoken about the start of his new adventure – and has not ruled out an F1 comeback.

“IndyCar is of course a big change from what I have experienced in motorsport so far,” said Mick Schumacher in an exclusive interview RTL/ntv and sport.de and specified: “The people work completely differently here. It’s a new environment that you have to get used to. It’s definitely fun. The most fun is racing in my own car again.”

“Of course it’s all very new for me”

After being on the Formula 1 grid for Haas in 2021 and 2022, the 27-year-old most recently worked as a reserve driver for Mercedes in the premier class of motorsport. After no new cockpit opportunity arose here, Mick Schumacher moved across the pond this year.

“Of course it’s all very new for me,” said the 2020 Formula 2 champion about his first weeks in the IndyCar Series: “So I’m still getting used to it.” 17th place in Long Beach, California is his best result to date.

The fact that speeds of up to 380 km/h are driven in the IndyCar Series doesn’t scare Mick Schumacher. “Otherwise I would probably be in the wrong sport,” he said. “The better answer would probably be respect,” said the Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing driver.

Mick Schumacher is not writing off Formula 1

Mick Schumacher has not yet given up on Formula 1.

“It would be a lie if I said that I don’t always go back to the Formula 1 times and think about what it was like to drive there. It’s a different time, of course. If an option came up again, of course I wouldn’t say no. That’s definitely the case,” he revealed.
