Cardinale, transfer point with the management: squad strengthened following Allegri’s line

Whether it can be defined as a blitz or not (he left again this afternoon), this new visit fits into the wake of 2026 in which the RedBird number one has returned to frequent San Siro, Casa Milan and Milanello with a certain frequency. Yesterday was the fourth time since the beginning of the year, one per month. With a dual objective: to convey closeness to the club and the team, after having been missing from Milan for several months, and to lay the foundations in person for next season.

From the club, after yesterday’s presence at the Meazza, comes the usual emphasis on the fact that “his presence once again testifies to the strong, constant and concrete support of the owners for the team and the entire club”. But, as on other occasions, there is obviously more. Cardinale is not an entrepreneur who crosses the ocean with the sole purpose of conveying closeness to the environment. There’s that too, since it represents a geographically distant property. But not only that. His stays in Milan also mean institutional discussions (such as the one with the League of A in recent weeks) and within Milan. In this sense, April is a month that overlooks the next season with arrogance and therefore Cardinale took advantage of it to also make a point with Allegri, Furlani and Tare. Nothing new, it had already happened, but it is still something that is worth underlining at a time where the coach has been brought up on a national level and where it is necessary to start defining the guidelines of the summer transfer market with a certain precision.

It wasn’t a real summit, but more of a chat in which the coach and owners took stock of the needs for the next Milan squad and what the club can do to please the coach. The crucial point is this. Allegri was and remains a corporate man, but he needs guarantees to face next season with serenity. Or rather: he needs guarantees to actually follow up on that “we have started a journey together and we will continue it together” spelled out after the victory in Verona. Which is a powerful and important statement of intent, but inevitably it hasn’t been set in stone yet. The conversation with Cardinale, following the coach’s repeated meetings with Furlani and Tare in recent days, therefore also served to clarify and discuss in this sense. Also because the squad absolutely needs to be improved. Max also underlined this this weekend, explaining that it must be increased numerically and that experienced profiles are needed to be mixed with younger guys in whom investments have been made. Translated: going from a squad of 23 players (including goalkeepers) to 27-28 (as is reasonable when playing in Europe) will mean putting a considerable strain on your wallet. However, the team’s needs are very clear to the club, which will work in this direction: the intention is to bring some high-level profiles to Milanello – Goretzka is the most effective example -, Cardinale has given a mandate to do everything possible to satisfy the coach.
