The Dutch winger praises the Brazilian who replaced him in blue on Instagram: a classy gesture that reopens the dialogue with the club in view of his possible return from his loan to Galatasaray

Alessandra Vaccaro

April 26 – 10.17pm – MILAN

No regrets, no remorse and above all no hard feelings. Noa Lang publicly compliments Alisson Santos, the winger who, in fact, stole his place in Napoli. “Craque”, is the comment left under the Brazilian’s latest post dedicated to the victory against Cremonese and his new celebration. The literal translation from Portuguese is ace, which in football language indicates a champion, a champion, a player who leads the team. Everything that Alisson has demonstrated, so far, in the blue shirt. Everything Noa Lang wanted to be for Napoli. The comment attracted the attention of Neapolitans who, despite not having particularly appreciated the Dutchman’s performances in recent months, were struck by his sincerity. More than one supporter has shown affection towards Noa: “Miss you”, “You’re a craque too”, “Next year, together, you will be devastating”.

return in sight?

Noa Lang, sent on loan to Galatasaray after just six months in the blue shirt, does not cross paths with Alisson, who arrives in the shadow of Vesuvius precisely to replace him. The Dutchman had assured, right from the presentation press conference, that he was “a player from whom you can expect many dribbles, goals and assists. The type of player for whom the fans come to the stadium to watch me play”. Well, fate played a bad trick on Noa. Almost nothing of what he had envisaged came true, both because Antonio Conte did not feel like giving up the Fab Four, preferring to lose the wingers, and because every time Noa had the opportunity to split the game, he sensationally wasted it, perhaps also due to an excess of zeal towards the principles of balance preached by the coach. Although Lang himself recently admitted that he was strongly desired by Conte, he ended up on the sidelines of the Naples project in just a few months. The colorful statements made by the Dutchman, while he was still in blue, must also have played an important role: “I only spoke once with Conte”, “One day everything will be known”, “I was not treated honestly”. To which Conte himself responded immediately after the debacle against PSV: “Lang has to work, when I decide I’ll send him on the pitch, otherwise he’ll stay on the bench.” There was no shortage of games as a starter this season, paired with his friend David Neres behind Hojlund, games that worked both for the fluidity of the game and for the results. But they were not enough to convince Conte to keep him. Together with Lucca, Noa was among the first sacrificed in the January transfer market. Loan to Galatasaray, where he found greater continuity, but where he probably won’t be redeemed. The possibility that Lang could return to Naples at the end of the season is concrete, especially after the Turkish club expressed its approval of Rashford.

two Brazilians and a Dutchman

In short, Noa Lang and Alisson Santos could play together next season. They will certainly share at least part of the pre-season training camp. Everything will depend on Antonio Conte’s decisions, both regarding his stay on the Napoli bench and on the possible presence of Lang in the squad. The certainty, for now, is the redemption that De Laurentiis’ club will exercise to make Santos a Napoli player in all respects. The other evidence is the intellectual honesty of Noa Lang, who despite a troubled season, full of communication misunderstandings, unfulfilled promises and failed opportunities, gives credit where credit is due to his replacement. Craque, as his friend David Neres had also defined. Who knows, maybe the next chapter dedicated to Napoli’s offensive department might begin with “Once upon a time there were two Brazilians and a Dutchman…”.
