Entrepreneur Michiel Maas has started a manhunt for a thief who tried to break into his telephone shop in the center of Veghel. The perpetrator did not enter, but caused significant damage. To track him down, Michiel offers a striking reward: the person with the golden tip will receive an iPhone worth almost a thousand euros. “I think we need it from someone who snitches on an acquaintance,” says Michiel.
The burglar tried to enter the store during the night from Monday to Tuesday. Michiel received a phone call around half past five at night after local residents woke up due to the noise. “They called the police and shouted out the window to scare him off,” says the store owner.
Although the perpetrator failed to gain entry, he did cause significant damage. “The street was covered with glass and the entire store was full,” says Michiel. “The stone with which the window had been smashed was still lying in front of the door. He was really clumsy, but we have strong reinforced glass and he was therefore unable to get in.”
He estimates the damage at around five to six thousand euros. And while there was nothing to be found at the telephone shop, because according to the owner, all devices are safely stored in a safe at night. “I’m disappointed. Such a sad horn trying to get in, while we make sure there’s nothing to get.”
The perpetrator was captured on camera footage. He has a large build and is approximately 1.80 meters tall. He was wearing dark clothing, a cap and hood and black shoes with a white sole. A white plastic bag hung on his bicycle.
The reward for the golden tip is an iPhone 17 worth 969 euros. Michiel hopes that with this action he will attract attention and someone will recognize the perpetrator or have information. “That they blame him or her for the damage and that he or she stops doing it,” he says fiercely. “Because a lot of people are burdened with this. Not only us, but also the insurance company and the police. With such a trivial action, which does not even achieve anything.”
Although the police are still investigating, Michiel has pinned his hopes on outside help. “The police are really doing their best, but I’m afraid they won’t be able to solve this. There are no fingerprints and they are still groping in the dark,” says Michiel. “So we should rather have it from someone who snitches on someone we know.”
Many responses have been received, but so far no real tips have been forthcoming. “So I’m waiting for someone with a good tip to pick up the phone and get in touch,” Michiel concludes.
