Bitter setback in the relegation battle: Miro Muheim is out for weeks. The 28-year-old suffered an injury to the anterior syndesmosis in his right ankle against Werder Bremen, HSV announced on Tuesday.
The diagnosis “probably” means an early end to the season for Muheim. So far, the Swiss has only missed two games due to a suspension. He prepared four goals in 28 Bundesliga games.
HSV’s appeal against Philip Otele’s ban remains unsuccessful: the attacker has to watch two games in the northern derby after being sent off. The DFB confirmed this on Tuesday. Otele was shown a red card in the 79th minute on Saturday when he accidentally hit his opponent Cameron Puertas on the ankle.
HSV will also have to do without assistant coach Loic Favé and physiotherapist Tim Roussis for the home game against Hoffenheim next Saturday. Both had received a red card against Werder and were banned from indoor play by the DFB for “unsportsmanlike conduct”.
After the 1:3 defeat in the northern derby at Werder Bremen, HSV is still in a relegation battle. Board member Eric Huwer still has no doubts that the newcomer will stay in the Bundesliga. “There are always setbacks, but what matters is how much mental power we have to deal with them and get back up again. In this regard, I have total trust in the group,” Huwer was quoted as saying on the HSV homepage.
The 42-year-old placed the bankruptcy in a series of similar outcomes. The game in Bremen was “a setback that we have experienced several times this season”. As examples, he cited the 5-0 defeat at FC Bayern on the third matchday and the elimination in the cup round of 16 after a 4-2 penalty shootout against Holstein Kiel.
Despite the defeat, Huwer sees the team in a decent starting position. With 31 points, HSV is in 14th place after matchday 30 and is five points ahead FC St Pauli on the relegation place. On the table 17th. The newly promoted team has a seven point lead over VfL Wolfsburg.
