Military personnel with long commuting distances receive extra compensation

The Council of Ministers today approved a removal allowance for soldiers with a long commuting distance. The proposal comes from Minister of Defense Theo Francken (N-VA). The allowance increases with the distance between residence and workplace. Anyone who travels more than 40 kilometers per route is eligible. The measure will come into effect on January 1, 2027.
