The work stoppage began earlier this week, when the afternoon crew stopped work. In the meantime, steel cord production has come to a complete standstill and the steel fiber department is also running at a low level. In total, more than 500 workers work in those departments.
The reason for the strike is the dismissal of an employee, which, according to the staff, happened unexpectedly and without prior notice or sanction. There is great dissatisfaction in the workplace. “Apparently everyone who works here can just be fired from one day to the next. Without notice or sanction. That is not possible,” says an anonymous employee. “Everyone can make a mistake and is entitled to a second chance, possibly with a sanction.”
