Manuel Neuer’s future has been the biggest topic at FC Bayern for weeks. Now, according to a media report, the goalkeeper has made his decision.
Manuel Neuer reportedly wants to extend his contract with FC Bayern by one year. As the Munich “Abendzeitung” reports, the world champion made this decision. Neuer is now expected to stay in Munich until 2027.
The club itself, in turn, contradicted the report. Sports director Christoph Freund said at the press conference on Friday: “This is the first time I’ve heard that. The media often knows more than we apparently do. These conversations didn’t take place, so I’m a bit surprised.” There is an exchange, but nothing more can be reported.
Bayern had recently signaled several times that they wanted to keep Neuer beyond the season. Uli Hoeneß said last week in a podcast with Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder: “Personally, if I have my way, we will try to keep him for another year.”
According to sports director Max Eberl, there has not yet been an offer for Neuer. “The ball is in Manu’s court,” he said after the Champions League second leg against Real Madrid last week and added: “It’s about fitness, mental freshness and the desire for another year. He has to signal that to some extent.”
Neuer himself didn’t let himself be seen, but he said on Sky after the cup game against Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday: “I won’t announce anything yet. But things are looking good at the moment.” According to the TV channel Sky and the transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Bayern bosses are also seeing a positive trend from the talks. Despite the friend’s denial, a timely extension cannot be ruled out.
