The fire broke out at around 3.30 am in a Euroshop store on Christuslaan. It is still unclear where exactly the fire started. By the time emergency services extinguish the flames, little is left of a stall and the front of the store.
Selahattin Arslan is the owner of the store and tells a reporter from NH that he was very shocked. He saw on his own camera footage how someone threw a stone through the window and poured a liquid inside. It is then set on fire. It is not yet known who the person in the images is.
Local residents see suspected perpetrator
A local resident says that he was awake when the fire broke out. A falling pallet caught his attention, after which he saw an unknown person lighting the fire.
Shortly afterwards, another resident saw a man on a scooter taking pictures of the fire. A moment later he drove away. Due to the large amount of smoke, many people witnessed the fire. The business is on the ground floor of a porch apartment
Due to the ongoing investigation, the police cannot yet make any statements about the cause of the fire, but say they cannot rule out intent. Forensic Investigation is on location this morning to conduct trace investigations.
