A delegation of nine students from the University of Buenos Aires was consecrated with the award to “Outstanding Delegation” in it National Model United Nations (NMUN), the most prestigious simulation of the United Nations system in the world, which has been carried out continuously since 1927. The competition took place in New Yorkand the awards were presented on the premises of the UN General Assembly.

It was the fourth participation of the UBA in the contest, but the first time that the delegation was made up of students from five different faculties: Law, Economic Sciences, Social Sciences, Exact and Natural Sciences, and Philosophy and Letters. The team represented the Syrian Arab Republic and prevailed before institutions of international weight such as the University of Texasthe Université Paris II Panthéon-Assasthe LMU Munich and the HEC Montrealamong others.

In addition to maximum recognition, the students garnered five additional distinctions: he Peers Award —awarded by his own peers— at the Review Conference of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and four awards for position papers in different committees of the General Assembly and the NPT.

The team was made up of Felicitas Repetto Alcorta, Juan Ignacio Bergaglio and Rocío Sivina Berardi (Law, Faculty of Law); Esteban Almeida and Manuela Sánchez Cisano (Actuary and Economics, Economic Sciences); Gonzalo Ruiz del Castillo (Political Science, Social Sciences); Cindy Eliana Levi and Azul Muiño (Computer Sciences and Biological, Exact and Natural Sciences); and Isabella Juliana Parise Cicero (Geography, Philosophy and Letters).

The nine were selected from an initial group of 70 applicants and went through intensive preparation of five months coordinated by tutors Martina Nasanovsky and Felix Samoilovichthe director of the Global Affairs Leadership Program Juan Francisco Petrillo and the academic coordinator Leopoldo MA Godio. The training included training in public speaking, negotiation and analysis of international issues, as well as meetings with diplomats and specialists.

The achievement occurs in a context of budget cuts to public universities. The UBA not only managed to send its largest and most interdisciplinary delegation to date, but also achieved the highest recognition in one of the most demanding academic settings in the world.
