The risk of wildfires in Brabant has increased further now that the fire brigade has set the highest warning level in several regions, including Eindhoven, Den Bosch, Tilburg and Breda. Nature is bone dry and that makes the danger great: one small spark can be enough to make things go wrong.
In Brabant North and Brabant South East, phase 2, the highest warning level, applies. This applies, among other things, in and around Den Bosch and Eindhoven. The fire brigade is therefore extra alert to the occurrence of wildfires. Visitors to nature reserves are also urged to be extra careful.
The warning level was also raised to phase 2 earlier on Thursday in Central and West Brabant, with cities such as Tilburg and Breda. The conditions are comparable everywhere: dry nature that can quickly ignite and fire that can spread in a short time.
Small spark, big risk
The fire brigade emphasizes that things often go wrong because of something minor. A discarded cigarette, a barbecue or a spark from a machine can be enough to start a fire. Due to the dry vegetation, such a fire can then spread very quickly.
Therefore, the call is clear: avoid open flames, be careful with anything that can spark and do not leave waste in nature reserves. In some areas, additional measures may apply, such as a ban on burning or additional checks.
Wildfire risk also increased further outside Brabant
Not only Brabant is faced with the increased danger. The warning level has also been raised in other parts of the country. For example, phase 2 applies in Utrecht and Gelderland-Zuid, which concerns the area around Nijmegen and the river area.
Earlier in the day, the highest warning level was already set in IJsselland, around Zwolle and surrounding areas, and in Haaglanden, around The Hague and surrounding areas. In the rest of the Netherlands, phase 1, the lowest warning level, still applies for the time being, although this can quickly change if drought persists.
