The new building where passenger security checks take place has been inaugurated at Charleroi airport. The building, which measures 1,740 square meters and has fourteen security lines, must avoid excessively long queues during the busy summer season. The new building is also an improvement for the staff; last year there were still work stoppages due to the inadequate infrastructure.

The building is located directly opposite Terminal 1 and was built in just three months, an investment of 5 million euros. There are many more security lines – fourteen instead of nine previously in Terminal 1 – and there is also a spacious preparation area and waiting area for passengers. The signage was also adjusted to better guide and inform travelers, especially about permitted and prohibited items in hand luggage. A steward is present to guide people.

“The aim is to optimize passenger flows, both inside and outside the terminal, and provide a smoother, clearer and less stressful journey during peak hours, while maintaining the expected quality and safety standards,” it said.

The new building now also provides more space in Terminal 1, especially near check-in. Two control lines have been maintained there: one for passengers with reduced mobility accompanied by BSCA staff and one for Fast Track passengers, who are thus treated outside the usual flows.

The new building was inaugurated by CEO Christophe Segaert, the Walloon minister responsible for airports Cécile Neven (MR), Mayor of Charleroi Thomas Dermine (PS) and the Chairman of the Board of Directors Gilles Samyn.
