The four Tilburg residents suspected of causing an explosion and arson at a synagogue in Rotterdam will remain in custody longer. The pre-trial detention of the minor suspect (17) was extended by a month by the council chamber on Thursday. The three other suspects (19 and 18) have been held in custody for sixty days longer.
The four were arrested after the explosion in Rotterdam and have been in full restriction since then.
Multiple arrests
A fifth suspect was arrested on Thursday, March 19. He is suspected of involvement in the explosion with terrorist intent. The pre-trial detention of the 19-year-old Tilburg citizen was extended by three months at the beginning of April, as the only one of the suspects.
On March 26, the police arrested a sixth suspect. The 20-year-old man from Tilburg is also suspected of being involved in the explosion in Rotterdam. He has been free since the beginning of April and can await his trial in freedom. However, he remains a suspect.
Explosion at synagogue
The explosion took place on the night of Thursday 12 to Friday 13 March at a synagogue on ABN Davidsplein in Rotterdam. Officers tracked down the first four suspects because the vehicle they were driving showed remarkable driving behavior. Officers eventually found a jerry can in their car.
Searches
After the arrests, the police searched four homes in Tilburg. This happened at Van Delfthof, Lage Witsiebaan and Dirk Fockstraat, among others. The police do not reveal where the fourth home is located. It is also not yet clear whether anything was found during the searches.
