AUDIO: HSV cooperative starts in May (1 min)
As of: April 23, 2026 11:45 a.m
After FC St. Pauli, HSV is now also setting up a cooperative for members and fans. The Hamburg Bundesliga soccer team expects millions in income from the “Supporters Trust”.
887 euros – that’s how much a share in HSV should cost, with which members and fans can participate in their favorite club. This is the idea of the “Supporters Trust”, which is due to launch in May.
The founding meeting is scheduled for May 5th. Depending on the cooperative’s ongoing review process by the district court, the operational start should follow. But the date has not yet been set. Only then can fans buy shares. At the start there will be a limited number of 18,870 shares. Both the amount of a share and the total number are reminiscent of the year HSV was founded in 1887.
“Supporters Trust” initially only for HSV members
Initially, according to NDR information, the offer is only aimed at HSV members. “In the first ten days after the start, HSV members will initially have the opportunity to participate,” said President Henrik Köncke in a statement Club interview. This will be followed by fans who may not be members but have a season ticket. Even supporters with less money should be able to participate.”
HSV expects to generate revenue of 16 million euros in the first phase – a total of up to 100 million euros is expected to come together in the next few years.
Volksparkstadion is to be expanded
However, the money can only be spent for a specific purpose: for – as the club puts it – “investments in the stadium experience”. In a first step, the capacity of the Volksparkstadion could be increased – from the current 57,000 to 60,000 seats. Investments in the squad – for example through player transfers – should not be financed through the subscribed shares.
“After the relevant approvals, the capacity expansion will begin immediately and a capacity of more than 58,000 fans will be achieved in the Volksparkstadion over the course of the coming season,” said Köncke.
Idol Hrubesch and trainer Polzin support the project
According to the club, members themselves wanted to get even more involved. At the general meeting last summer, the majority of fans voted for the model. Club idols like Horst Hrubesch and David Jarolim are involved. The model was also presented to the Bundesliga team, and some players supported the project. Trainer Merlin Polzin is also one of the founding members.
