AH in Best evacuated, several people inhaled potentially dangerous refrigerant gas

The Albert Heijn supermarket on the Boterhoek in Best was evacuated on Saturday morning after problems with the cooling installation. Gas has leaked.

According to a 112 correspondent, there was a smoke-like smoke in the store for a short time. The staff immediately cleared the case after the problems were discovered. The fire brigade and a technician of the cooling installation were called in to solve the problems.

health damage
Around half past ten it was clear what kind of refrigerant gas it was: tetrafluoroethane. “This gas could potentially cause health damage,” a spokesperson for the fire service said. “That is why an ambulance was called as a preventive measure.”

Three or four people would have inhaled this refrigerant gas and had minor complaints. “But all staff present are checked just to be sure,” the 112 correspondent knows. “It’s about fifteen people.”

Not open
The leak was closed around 11 a.m. The fire service will ventilate the building, but according to the fire service spokesperson, the store will probably not open this Saturday.
