Tina Nijkamp is a disaster when it comes to styling: she prefers to wear the same black blouse every day. But she is also no star when it comes to make-up. “What have you done?!”

Every TV program has its own make-up department and that’s a good thing, because without that layer of filler, half of Hilversum would suddenly look a lot less TV-worthy. Moreover, many women have no idea how to apply makeup that looks decent on camera. One of them is Tina Nijkamp, she admits.

Spots on face

Tina has quickly found a place in the regular cast of Today Inside and she always looks well cared for there. “I never think about those cameras that way. I always think: is my make-up good? Not whether I look handsome, because I am no longer that age, but whether I don’t have runny eyes, for example,” she says in the Weekend.

For her husband, who according to Tina is very hot, it is very reassuring that they have some professional powder types at VI. “I always enjoy doing make-up work, because I can’t do it myself. My husband always says: ‘What have you done with your foundation again? I see all kinds of spots on your face!’”

Misogynistic

De Weekend wonders whether Tina feels good at VI. “The VI men are often under fire because of misogynistic statements. Have you ever had conversations with them that you later thought might not be very useful?”

She then says: “No, I just always say what I think. And I often agree with them, that’s why I like VI so much. And if I don’t agree with them, I say so.”

Sprayed on Fajah

There is also criticism of Tina’s VI performances, Weekend says. “When you discussed Fajah Lourens’ cosmetic surgery — she underwent an upper and lower eyelid correction and a temple lift — some female viewers thought you were talking too much about the men. One of them called it body shaming.”

Tina: “It wasn’t body shaming, so I don’t really care when something like that is said. They often say that women should support each other. Well, I don’t feel that way… I’m not that feminist. I just say what I think and have never seen women and men as separate.”

Women support women

Women support women? Tina doesn’t do that. “My parents raised me with the message that women and men are equal. Only afterwards do I see how special it is that they already taught me that at the time.”

“But I have never been concerned with being a woman. It doesn’t interest me at all, not even when I was boss of SBS6. For me, women and men are equal. And I support everyone I want to support.”
