A bag of potatoes, in which you can find sprouted pots, is not a rarity. Probably quite a lot of us recognize this miracle of growth that happened in the refrigerator.

But can you eat sprouted potatoes or root vegetables?

Martoi has an answer to this. If the sprouts of the potatoes that have been in the refrigerator are small, less than half a centimeter, and the potatoes are still crunchy, you can use them without worry.

On the other hand, if the sprouts are long and the potatoes are loose, they should no longer be used in cooking. The same goes for green potatoes.

The potato is by no means the only vegetable that can start to sprout in the refrigerator.

Can sprouted carrots be eaten?

According to Martto, you can safely eat sprouted carrots, but sprouting may cause the carrot or other root vegetables to have a bad taste. For this reason, it is good to do a taste test before cooking.

However, the sprouted carrot should be peeled.

In order to reduce sprouting, it is recommended to go through the root and vegetable boxes regularly, about once a week, and try to use the roots in time.
