Stepson arrested for attempted murder with hammer

The police of the Damme/Knokke-Heist zone were called up on Thursday afternoon around 2.30 pm for serious domestic violence in the Onderwijsstraat in Heist. In front of his mother’s house, the suspect got into a fight with his stepfather. The victim was even hit on the head with a hammer. The six-year-old was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. His condition is still critical on Friday afternoon, the prosecutor said.

Unclear why

The suspect was arrested by the police as a result of the incident. It is currently unclear why he went off the rails. Further research will have to show how exactly the fork is attached to the stem. The investigating judge has decided to arrest the stepson.

The council chamber in Bruges will decide on Tuesday morning whether or not the suspect should remain in prison.
