There was actually hardly any advance booking for the Doctors’ 2027 tour. Because on Wednesday (April 15th) all regular tickets for 32 concerts went into lucky hands within a few hours. At least there are still some social tickets. But many fans still had no chance of getting a single ticket. The four Berlin performances were sold out after just 10 minutes.
As always in cases where there is a large, hard-to-estimate demand and a fundamentally limited supply, doubts remain as to whether there are better solutions for selling concert tickets. The doctors have decided to sell personalized tickets on their website website decided. A common procedure that the band has been using for a long time. The FAQs say: “The first and last name must be entered in the blank line on the ticket immediately after receiving the tickets.”
Of course, hours after the sales phase, there were offers on eBay and other portals where tickets were offered at exorbitant prices. The musicians warn against buying from Viagogo and Co., but ultimately the signature principle can be easily avoided if you simply don’t write your name on the ticket and still resell it.
Social and technical benefits – or help for greedy eBay pirates?
What is interesting is that it was allowed to get up to eight tickets per order (for the social tickets that are still available, there are four tickets per purchase). This is not unusual, other sellers also offer this option, some limit it to a maximum of four tickets per order.
The process has its social value; it enables families and groups of friends to receive tickets together without much effort. If one person buys eight tickets, this also means, among other things, that seven more people do not overload the booking system.
Nevertheless, the question arises as to how high the limit is in relation to demand and whether it doesn’t make it even easier for resellers/scalpers who stock up on multiple accounts to get the coveted cards and then resell them at a huge profit.
In this context, personalization is more of a deterrent than actually preventing misuse (this would only be possible with the use of apps that require you to log in). Names can often be changed or bypassed. Admission controls are rarely strict enough to actually screen every visitor, and secondary markets generally remain in place.
So many Doctors fans who came away empty-handed can only hope that additional concerts will either be offered or that tickets will be put back into circulation. This could certainly be the case if, after the advance payment phase has expired, some buyers “return” their tickets because they have provisionally booked tickets for several concerts or friends who they were buying for decide to cancel.
