5 years of studio break, then this: Adele records a song for “Cry To Heaven” & makes her acting debut.

Adele has largely withdrawn from the music studio over the past five years. Now “The Sun” reports that she is working on new tracks again – but not for a classic album. Instead, she is increasingly focusing on acting.

For her film debut, she also tried out new things musically. She takes on a role in the film “Cry To Heaven”, directed by director and fashion designer Tom Ford. At her side are Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Colin Firth and Nicholas Hoult, among others.

Role models Whitney Houston and Barbra Streisand

With the career change, Adele is emulating her idols: Whitney Houston, who took on a major film role in “Bodyguard,” and Barbra Streisand, who also took a break from music to pursue acting and directing.

But that’s not the only thing that moves Adele. Family also plays a big role. The singer has a twelve-year-old son, Angelo, from her marriage to entrepreneur Simon Konecki. In previous interviews she said that she wasn’t a fan of touring because she didn’t want to leave her son alone for so long. The “Hello” interpreter is now engaged to Rich Paul, a sports manager. Working in the film business supposedly gave her more planning and therefore more routine and time for the family. An insider tells The Sun: “Adele has made it very clear that she wants more children. Hollywood is the perfect compromise.”

No cheesy cameo

Adele deliberately chose Tom Ford as director for her film debut. “She didn’t want to just do a cheesy cameo as a pop star in a romantic comedy. She wants to be taken seriously as an actress,” the inside source told The Sun.

The project is a film adaptation of the novel “Cry To Heaven” by Anne Rice. This takes place in the world of opera and deals with the fate of the soprano Tonio Treschi. As one of the most famous singers in the world, Adele fits perfectly into the film. She is determined to show the audience that she also has the acting talent to perform in front of the camera.

Not an album project – but a strong signal

Not much is known about the new song at the moment. The music recording for the project is also not her first film soundtrack: in 2012 she sang the title song of the James Bond film “Skyfall”.

According to insiders, hiring Adele for a track was still a real challenge. “Getting new material from Adele is like gold,” they said.

When exactly the film and the track will be released is still unclear at this point.
