2nd Bundesliga
After four wins in a row, Hansa Rostock has suffered a setback in the second division. The North Germans had problems against table neighbor Fortuna Düsseldorf from the start – and clearly lost.
Fortuna Düsseldorf broke Hansa Rostock’s winning streak and took a huge step towards remaining in the 2nd Bundesliga. On Friday, Daniel Thioune’s team defeated the North Germans, who had previously won four times in a row, 3-0 (1-0). Ao Tanaka (13th minute), Shinta Appelkamp (64th) and Khaled Narey (90th + 3) scored the Fortuna goals in front of 22,346 spectators. With that, the Düsseldorfers extended their own series to eight unbeaten games.
This means that Fortuna under Thioune is still undefeated. In the table, the Rhinelanders are now eight points ahead of SG Dynamo Dresden in the relegation rank after 29 match days, who only play at SV Sandhausen on Sunday. Newly promoted Rostock is one point better with 37 points.
On Friday, however, Hansa, who had been so strong recently, only woke up after the first – technically excellent – goal conceded by Japanese international Tanaka. But Fortuna held up well and this time not only brought the lead over time, but also continued to play courageously forward. The second goal by the German-Japanese Appelkamp and the final decision in injury time by Narey were the deserved reward. Due to the death of club legend Gerd Zimmermann, the Düsseldorf team played with black ribbons last week.
