After months of rumors and hints, Madonna has finally officially confirmed the sequel to her 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor. The follow-up work is entitled “Confessions II”, will be released on July 3rd and has already been announced with a short visual teaser. The lead single is called “One Step Away”.

“People think dance music is superficial, but they are completely wrong,” Madonna said in a statement. “The dance floor is not just a place – it is a threshold: a ritual space in which movement replaces language.”

She also shared the “manifesto” she created with Confessions II producer Stuart Price when she began working on the album: “We need to dance, celebrate, and pray with our bodies. These are things we’ve been doing for millennia – they’re spiritual practices. The dance floor is a ritual space. A place to connect – with your wounds, with your vulnerability. Raven is an art form. It’s about exploring your limits and connecting with a community To connect like-minded people. Sound, light and vibration. They transform our perception, pulling us into a trance-like state. We don’t just hear the bass of the rhythm – we feel it and dissolve ego and time.

Madonna’s collaboration with Stuart Price

The original Confessions on a Dance Floor was the first Madonna album produced by Price, although the two had begun working together in 2001 when he remixed songs from her album Music. “Confessions on a Dance Floor” spawned the hits “Hung Up,” “Sorry,” “Get Together” and “Jump” and is considered one of her most beloved works.

The announcement of Confessions II comes at a busy time for Madonna. Just earlier this month, it was announced that she would be appearing in the upcoming season of Seth Rogen’s Hollywood satire The Studio. She was last seen filming in Venice – alongside Julia Garner, who was supposed to portray the pop icon in a biopic that ultimately didn’t materialize. The appearance appears to be set in an alternate reality where the film was actually filmed.

No tour plans yet

It is not yet known when “One Step Away” will be released. Madonna hasn’t said a word about tour plans either. She was last on the road with the Celebration Tour in 2023/2024. The hugely successful show spanned hits from her entire career, celebrated her 40th anniversary as a pop star and grossed over $225 million from 81 concerts.
